Action Research:-
..or collaborative research with people, is a means of overcoming
the limitations of classic research in a chaotic or unpredictable
research situation. These limitations are the assumptions
that:
a) the researcher does not influence subjects
b) variables be controlled, and
c) validity be statistically assessed.
Action Research addresses these shortcomings in the existing model
and provides best results in unpredictable environments.
Action Research has been used in curriculum development, professional
development, systems planning and qualitative research by organisations.
Classic Science:-
..is what people refer to as 'science'. It is a reductionist,
quantitative method of inquiry based on controlled experimentation
and peer critique. It assumes objectivity and thus must also
assume "reality" in
a laboratory. It is authoritative because of its assumption
that it is the best way of knowing about nature, and it operates
in
a manner which totally excludes human qualities.
Discipline:- group of researchers/practitioners/ who follow
a given boundary of study. e.g. the disciplines of law, architecture,
zoology etc. Trans-discipline:- that which goes across disciplines;
which can gather individual disciplines at a higher order,
thus
permitting a 'means' of dialogue where none existed. Working
with comparable systemic groups of individual disciplines.
Epistemology:-
...how we know what we know.
Group Process:-
...is a method of transforming the issues arising out of conflict
and diversity in groups of people. Thus it is a basis for
either end of the spectrum, 'Conflict Resolution'--'Community
Building'.
Heuristics:-
...from Greek heuriskein - helping to discover and learn.
When you select to enter the heuristic course you will receive
supervision
in the changes within your own life while you are studying.
These are very distinct from the content of an assignment
you may successfully
complete.
Human Ecology:- (first use of the term is arguable but see
Bookchin, Black Rose Bks, Montréal & NY.) An emergent
science of relationships between people and the natural environment.
Inner Work:-
...meditation in action. The immediate psychological work done
when under challenge.
Meta (skill):-That which
goes 'with' e.g. meta-bolism; meta-carpus (beyond the wrist),
meta-physics
Ontology:-
...the nature of being
Phylogeny:-
...the history of the human species from biological origin
to today.
Secular Spirituality:-
spirituality not aligned with any organised religion, taking
its basis from Nature. Systems Theory:-
...is that which arises when wholes, rather than parts, are
investigated.
Wisdom of the Group©:-
...compare Jung's collective unconscious, i.e. that which
can be assessed by group process.
